7èmes Journées Statistiques du Sud, du 9 au 11 juin 2014 à Barcelone, Espagne

We are pleased to announce the 7èmes Journées Statistiques du Sud (http://www.lsta.upmc.fr/doct/guedj/JSS/) that will be held in Barcelona between June 9 and 11, 2014.

The "Journées de Statistiques du Sud" consist of a series of workshops taking place mostly in the South of France, now for the first time extending to Catalonia. Centered on mini-courses and talks given by outstanding researchers, these workshops aim at providing a stimulating forum for exchanging ideas and learning about the latest developments on selected topics of intensive research in Statistics.

Confirmed invited speakers include:
Francis Bach (INRIA - Ecole Normale Supérieure)
Luc Devroye (McGill University)
Martin Wainright (University of California at Berkeley)
Pierre Alquier (University College Dublin)
Pedro Delicado (Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya)
Gersende Fort (Télécom ParisTech)
Aurélien Garivier (Université Toulouse III - Paul Sabatier)
Catherine Matias (Université d’Évry Val d’Essonne)
Omiros Papaspiliopoulos (Universitat Pompeu Fabra)

This year's workshop is part of a broader Research program on the Mathematics of machine learning (see http://stat.wharton.upenn.edu/~rakhlin/crm/) organized
by the Centre de Recerca Matemàtica of Barcelona (http://www.crm.cat/en/Pages/default.aspx)

MCEB 2014 - Mathematical and Computational Evolutionary Biology, du 15 au 19 juin 2014 au Hameau de l’Étoile à Montpellier

Webpage: http://www.lirmm.fr/mceb2014/
Pre-registration deadline: February 15

Scope: Mathematical and computational tools and concepts form an essential basis for modern evolutionary studies. The goal of the MCEB conference (at its 6th edition) is to bring together scientists with diverse backgrounds to present recent advances and discuss open problems in the field of mathematical and computational evolutionary biology. This year a special focus will be given to the applications to biodiversity in all its aspects: from its conservation to its ecology and evolution; from the diversity within a genome, to that between individuals within a species and that between species in an ecosystem.
General concepts, models, methods and algorithms will also be presented and discussed, just as during the previous conference editions.

Where and when: Hameau de l'Etoile (http://www.hameaudeletoile.com/) in the Montpellier region, South of France, 15-19 June 2014.

Cost: Conference fees including accommodation (4 nights), meals, coffee breaks, buses, etc., will be around 500 €, and will vary depending on the room type. PhD students and postdocs will benefit of the cheapest rooms.

Keynote speakers (to be completed):
- Richard Durbin (Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute, UK): Population genomics
- Nicolas Lartillot (Université de Montréal, CA): Comparative genomics and ecology
- Arne Mooers (Simon Fraser University, CA): Considering the Tree of Life in Conservation
- Hélène Morlon (Centre de Mathématiques Appliquées, FR): Dynamics of biodiversity
- Rasmus Nielsen (University of Berkeley, US): Theory and methods developments in Population Genetics
- Adam Siepel (Cornell University, US): Genome-wide inference of ancestral recombination graphs
- Mike Steel (University of Canterbury, NZ): What can we reconstruct from the past?
- Simon Tavaré (Univ. of Cambridge and Univ. of Southern California ): Cancer as an evolutionary process

IWFOS 2014 - 3rd International Workshop on Functional and Operatorial Statistics, du 19 au 21 juin 2014 à Stresa, Italie

CALL FOR PAPERS
We welcome proposals addressing “infinite dimensional statistical problems or methods” with special emphasis on:
· Statistical modelling for functional variables,
· Functional Data Analysis,
· Operator-based Statistics,
· Background for Statistics in infinite-dimensional spaces.
For this third edition we wish to encourage also contributions in Machine Learning and in High Dimensional Statistics in order to further relations between all these different fields of modern statistics and to contribute to their future development.
The extended abstracts (from 4 to 6 pages) should be formatted according to the author guidelines described in the web-site of the workshop and will have to uploaded using exclusively the dedicated submission form on the web-site. All the submitted works will be reviewed by experts selected by the Scientific Program Committee.
The format of the workshop has not parallel sessions, and so a limited number of oral contributions (around 30) will be accepted. In addition, some contributions could also be accepted as posters.

DEADLINES
January 15, 2014 Submission deadline.
March 31, 2014 Notification of Acceptance.
April 15, 2014 Revised submission deadline.
For organizing requirements, early submissions are encouraged and any postponement will not be granted after 15th January 2014.
