Our best wishes for the new year! For the first seminar of 2018, we have the great pleasure to invite, with the support of the IDS dpt, Institut des Actuaires, Labex MME-DII, and the group BFA (SFdS): Dr. Marcin DETYNIECKI
Head of Data Science and R&D at the Data Innovation Lab, GIE AXA Associate Researcher at LIP6 (UPMC) and Professor at the Polish Academy of Science who will speak on Data Science Challenges and Limitations in the Real World
Date and place: Wednesday, January 17, at 12:30 pm, ESSEC - campus La Défense (CNIT) - room 202 Abstract: More and more data science is being used in real world applications (e.g. governments, industries). While the underlying techniques (e.g. machine learning) provide great opportunities, they also come with strong challenges. During this talk, we will discuss some of the existing limitations and their underlying reasons. One of the challenges is, for instance, the machine learning interpretability. In fact, many machine learning models are black-boxes: answers to questions, such as why a particular prediction is made? when is the model right or wrong? what can be done to change a prediction?, are not simple to obtain and require the development of specific techniques. Faced with such complexity, we will present what is being done today to address these limitations.
